Right, so I as I occasionally do, I’m building a guitar. Specifically I’m building a Telecaster with a maple neck. I thought about going with the standard iconic Butterscotch Blonde (pictured below), but I think I’d rather do it in a unique color.
So what I’d like is pictures of sports cars, muscle cars, family sedans...anything you think would look good on a slab of swamp ash.
I can go with either a black or a vintage white pickguard, so basically any color will work.

What color neck?

Seeing a Telecaster is quite flat, I think a colour that looks good on a boxy car would work best.
My vote goes to French racing blue/Gordini Blue.
I think that would work quite well with a (vintage) white pickguard.
Is the guitar a kit you’re building?

Winning Blue
Edit: Crimson Red...
Maybe some White Diamond...

What about a medium-to-dark green? Not too common on guitars. Would look fantastic with either a white or black pickguard, though I would probably go with white for a color like that.
I have a matte black fender strat with a humbucker and the matte finish is a very cool look. It’s worn to be glossy in a few areas but stayed matte in others, and I think that gives it a lot of character (in a good way). Don’t really know how that finish works but it might be worth considering if you can get it. I also have a triple layer white/black/white pickguard witch is a nice touch and something you could consider, though I think that’s less common on tele than strat.

This is what I did since I couldn’t choose a color.

Damn, that looks nice, though I think it works better on a Stratocaster than a Telecaster.
Now I’m starting to think about dissasembling my cheapo Stratocaster, and taking it to an Aston approved repairshop near me to have them paint it with some left over paint.

I was going to suggest Fiesta red, but then I found this pinkish color I really like browsing Nash Guitars’ website

Maple. I can stand rosewood on a Strat, but it looks wrong on a Tele to me.

Whoa, that’s super cool. How did you do that?

French Blue is actually a great idea with aged white.
It isn’t exactly a kit, I bought a body and just got a great deal on a nice Fender Baja neck, so I’ll assemble the rest around those.

Kind of a coral pink, that’s not bad looking.

I went with surf green when I made mine, but I like the idea of a car color on one. Good luck.

I was thinking about a medium metallic green. Not like a BRG but a GREEN, you know? So far French Blue is my favorite suggestion, and a hue you rarely see on Teles.

Surf Green is one of my favorite colors, my first build was actually a Surf Green Esquire with a rosewood neck.

41 pieces of pine all cut to the same size, wood glued together into a body blank. Then it was worked about the same as any other guitar build. Except planing it was awful because you have no wood grain to go with so I just did a lot of work with a belt sander instead. For the finish I used gunstock oil because I needed something that wouldn’t be absorbed by the end grain. Here’s the test fit before it was all oiled and stuff.

Man, that’s awesome looking. What have you got in it for pickups?

Old crappy Chinese ones I had lying around from an old project, I wanted to make sure the body wouldn’t crack in half with string tension applied before I sprang for quality electronics.

I’m a big fan of Daphne Blue Tele’s myself (along with the classic Blonde). Just put this one together on the mod shop website. Don’t see Daphne Blue with black pickguard and maple neck often.

I’m a big fan of Pelham Blue on Gibsons, which is almost a metallic Daphne Blue, and I like them with the black like you did there. I did a Strat in a Honda ice blue shade that was pretty similar, I could do something like that again.

Oh yeah, Pelham Blue is a real looker. If you still have that Strat, maybe they’d be too similar if you wanted to have variety?

Nah, it’s long gone. I’m going to make a pilgrimage to Advance Auto tomorrow and see what they’ve got for colors. I might actually do color over Butterscotch Blonde, so when it wears it shows color like it was repainted, you know?

Sherwood Green is a great color, especially aged.
